I'm in year 12 and my college give a week to do work experience. I was thinking of going to a high school in the area for my work experience as I'm not sure if I want to go into teaching or not. Is this a good idea or is year 12 too early to be doing work experience at a high school?!

Year 12 isn't early, some people (in the UK) do it in Year 10.

If you're thinking about teaching then give it a go if not it may be worth looking to see if there's something more relevant to what you want to do, though I appreciate it can be difficult to find.

Thank you for the advice! I think I'll go for it as I have two options to fill anyway! I was looking for something more relevant to physics but I haven't been able to find anything near me.

    Ah yes, tricky one..

Perhaps you can apply for a Nuffield placement for some other time?

I'm not sure when they close or exactly when they are run.. but worth a look

Thank you, I'll take a look at that tomorrow! I'm going to a physics master class at Cambridge this year so I was hoping that would help with some form of experience!

No harm in doing a bit of work experience at all! It's all good practice, and it'll help you prepare for the world of work.

I was in Year 12 last year, and a lot of people in my year group had, and still have part time jobs.
After doing my work experience at a local library I have volunteered at my local library over the summer holidays twice now (I did my work experience there in Year 10 and enjoyed it so much).

In fact, my school are very keen on us doing extra-curricular activities, and they made everybody in Year 12 do work experience for two weeks in late June. Because, as I said, I was working at the library in the summer, they let me have the two weeks off whilst everyone else worked. :P

Thanks for the reply! That sounds really good! I did a week of work experience in year 10 and most people are doing it again in year 12. I don't have a part time job at the moment so I'm hoping I can get experience this way instead!

If I do go to a high school for mine this year, my school have said I could go again for one day every other week or something like that when I'm in year 13 next year! I'm hoping it works out okay!
