What's your stance on the Irish question. I recall you having a somewhat complicated opinion.
Considering I'm a nationalist I'd support a united Ireland, but as a compromise I'd accept a united Ireland as part of Britain, my big issue with Partition wasn't British Rule, but the break up of Ireland. With no faith in Stormont and distrust of the Southern govt, I'd be open to reuniting under the UK. Although not under Conservatives, with NI so reliant on its public sector.

The Unionist vote will undoubtedly split further at this election, with a small fall in support for the DUP, giving the UUP gains. I'd say 2 seats maybe, not enough to throw DUP off top spot, but could do them some damage!

I think fear of voting in SF First Minister will whip the DUP voters to still vote DUP. I don't think the vote will change much at all.

Apparently it turns out that if they don't agree then Westminster can impose direct rule.

I'm curious as to how long this could last and what unionist opinion on this would be?

Yeah, but as I understand it there would be an Assembly election before that happens. Ultimately things do hinge on the outcome, but it's unlikely to be substantially different to what it currently is.

In which case, good old indefinite direct rule. The equally entertaining part is that they don't have a budget - and it looks like it may well have to be set by a civil servant unless direct-rule gets put in place in quite short order.

While direct rule would certainly mean things getting done, I doubt it will happen (even though N.Ireland getting a budget via direct rule would be pretty great). The Tories won't want to intervene in N.Ireland, and that has been made clear. They would prefer Stormont to get their **** together.

My money is on Michelle O'Neill. Plus have you seen the rate at which she talks in the assembly!
