Dizziness

I've been feeling dizzy on and off since Friday (sort of like being on a boat on a rough sea) and attributed it to the fact that I had been on a boat on Thursday and my inner ear got somehow imbalanced.. I have felt like this before after I flew with a slight cold and got diagnosed with 'Benign Positionary Vertigo' which doesn't really sound like a real condition. I figured it would pass soon enough.

Anyway, having returned to work today, it seems several people have been experiancing the same symptoms and one person is off with sickness. So perhaps it is a bug? I am toying with the idea of a 24 hour fast to see if I can starve it out.. has anyone else experianced this and how did you get rid of it?

My boyfriend also suggested it could be related to dehydration as we have just come back from a week in Tenerife where I probably (definitely) didn't drink enough so am trying to restock my water supplies too - not sure whether my er 'loose bowels' are a result of this increased water intake or the symptom of a bug.

Can't really be bothered to go to the docs as I feel ok in myself, just like I might fall off my chair at any moment. Any thoughts from the medics out there?

You got diagnosed with something and you tacitly assumed it wasn't a "real condition"? Vertigo is a real condition. It's not a life-threatening one, but that doesn't make it any less "real".

Does sound more like a bug than anything though. Whenever I have any sort of bug I generally don't eat anything and I drink as much water as possible until it's gone. Completely drains you of energy, but it gets rid of the bug...

I think you misunderstood me.. I said it doesn't sound like a real condition, not that it isn't, I know it is (having suffered from it :p: ) I think it was down to the fact that I had always considered vertigo a fear of something rather than a something you can experiance with feet on ground/butt in chair etc without being exposed to heights at all - and I'm not afraid of heights anyway

Yeah, I think I am going to go for the fast/plenty of water combo.. I'm pretty knackered anyway so I think an early night might be in order too. Now I just have to hope my dizziness clears up in the next couple of hours so I can drive home from work.

I sometimes suffer from virtigo. I believe its related to blood pressure or something but I'm not completely sure.

If people at work are suffering with the same symptoms as you then it does sound like a bug going round. Maybe go to the doctor if it doesn't improve

Someone at work mentioned low blood pressure actually, but mine has always tended towards higher than normal if anything. Perhaps that is a red herring. I guess I'll just see how I feel after I've treated it like a bug, if I'm still suffering on Weds then I guess I will have to go to the docs.

If you feel yourself getting exhausted (as in completely drained of energy, not tired), try diluted fruit juice or weak squash, or something to keep your energy up.

And... you're still at work? Get home straight away. Chances are, if you drink anything or move too much, you'll throw up. That's kind of to be expected, though...
