Not a lie, as still spoke the truth. However, to omit the other half would be decieving

So say it's tomorrow. I've done my detour. Friend somehow has amnesia, asks "where did you go when you left?". I say "The bus station".

I did go to the bus station, and my short detour doesn't change that fact nor add any real new perspective. I'd say a half-truth is actually deceptive when you're doing something designed to change the perspective of the person receiving the half-truth. If I say "Oh actually I went to spar first" my mate would be like "oh ok idc", but if instead I was like "Oh I popped into the next city first to have sexual intercourse with a lovely girl called Ellie I met online a few months ago", suddenly the whole story is totally different and they're going to be a bit shocked and confused.
    right so deception then

Yeah if there's an actual deception going on rather than a trivial detail being missed out then it's a lie.

finally found a short way of putting it. **** I'm bad at talking

I don't think the example in the OP is that good because a lot of people would still say the guy deserves to die if he killed 10 people no matter what.

But ye when people leave out info they're scoundrels.

It's deceiving but I don't know about lying, devicing is twisting or telling the truth to make it seem different and lying is saying something that isn't true. Although lying is a form of deceiving but deceiving isn't lying

    :hmmmm:
If a person lies, they are decieving someone.
If they say a half-truth, they are still decieving someone by omitting the other half.
To lie = not to say the truth
To decieve = twisting the truth, hiding the truth whether it be by lying or another means

    1. If a person lies, they are decieving someone.
    2. If they say a half-truth, they are still decieving someone by omitting the other half.
    3. To lie = not to say the truth
    4. To decieve = twisting the truth, hiding the truth whether it be by lying or another means
    1. ok...
    2.ok...
    3. ok...
    4. So that means deceiving=lying. Hiding=omitting, same harm.

If your argument is that deceiving doesn't equal lying, then leave it at "twisting the truth" methinks.

Meant decieving can include lying, but you don't need to lie to decieve.

Ditto. I think weirdly tbh. So people don't get me. Doesn't mean I'm right though -i could be way off the scale. And there are always other ways to see things -which i don't always get lol
