    Speakership Election

I have received seven candidacies for the position of Speaker: cBay, Nigel Farage MEP, DanE1998, Aph, PetrosAC, adam9317 and hazzer1998. Their manifestos are displayed below.

A three-day Q&A period will now take place before the first round of voting takes place.

    hazzer1998
    The Logical Choice for speaker

We need a speaker that will recognize that fairness and being non partisan is a vital quality in taking on the role of being speaker of the MHoC. If elected speaker I will ensure theses qualities are upheld to the highest's of standards and every member new or old , labour or conservative , UKIP or socialist (Even the liberals to) are treated with fairness and their contributions are valued.
We deserve a speaker that has the experience and organisation skills to take on the important role of being speaker. I will
-Consult the house on the idea of moving the daily update to the Morning / Afternoon rather then the evening so when members log on the daily update and new legislation is posted
-Continue working with the CC and ensure every party has one representative that is active and making crisis's for the house
-Ensure Party MP seats are filled and will run by-elections if any MP voting record falls below 70%
-Create a new “The speakers Chamber” Thread and a “Speaker Announcement” Thread for any important announcements / statements can be made and read in one thread
-Consult the house on the election of a Third Chairman of ways and means or2nd Deputy Speaker
With theses proposals and the members that we have I hope we can work together to make the house a better place for everyone

    adam9317

    PetrosAC

    Aph
I, Aph, doth hereby declare that I, Aph, doth hereby proclaim that I, Aph, doth hereby put myself forward as nominee for the position of speaker.

As speaker I will be harsh and decisive. I will issue a death blow to all failing TSR institutions and parties. I will use the full extent of my new found power to overhaul the definitions and interpretations found in the GD, I will reset precedent and harshly punish all who step out of line. I will end this endemic of people using devices in ways they aren't meant to be used and I promise to spy openly and regularly on all party sub-forums. I will also combat nastiness in the sub-forum by working with the CT to begin overzealous moderation of the MHOC to crackdown on even the slightest personal attack.

Vote for me to make the MHOC great again!!!

    Speaker of the Soul
    By Quamquam123

Twas the night before Monday, when all through the House
Not a creature was stirring, not even a mouse.
For old Mr Whiskers had eaten them all,
No one was ready for what was in stall

The Right Hon. Fez would be stepping down
And handing over his glistening crown
One week on, the election commenced
This will be very, very close you sensed

Many people standing, but who they be?
Scroll to the top and you will see
“I love myself and of course, the GD
My name is Nigel Farage MEP”

    cBay - I thought you’d retired?
Or is this role what you always desired?
    Next comes Dan, ex-Labour Chair,
Vote for him if you just don’t care

Then comes the lynx, the tiger, the cat
Let’s hope your campaign doesn’t fall flat
‘Cos despite Aphgate one, two and three,
Speakership could do the trick for thee

    Here he comes, roasted away
Time for Hazzer to enter the fray
And do his best to keep others at bay
My advice to him? Pray and pray.

The Tory Deputy Leader and mod
Your political views I find rather odd
You’re certainly cool, collected and calm
Perhaps you’ll win just on charm?

Often compared to a spineless being
Your manifesto; like what I’m seeing
    ‘Experienced’, ‘active’, ‘held to account’
From your high horse you may dismount

Fez starts his last duty as Speaker
Surely the next has to be weaker?
He’s been good, bad, and a top top lad,
His resignation is sad, sad, sad

There was also a bonus paragraph as I thought UU might be standing:

An Unown quantity is standing here
Opposed to drugs, sex and beer
A big fan of Donald Trump
Is he the one for whom you’ll plump?

Also, I just want to stress that the content in the poem does not reflect my own views. I just tried to find words that would fit.

Not at all. I feel I have plenty still to give as Liberal Leader, but I believe it's incredibly important that we have a strong, active and most importantly neutral speaker, and that is why I have stood.

    Let's see

The format means I can't even be bothered to read Hazzer's or Aphs (saves you two the inevitable abuse really)
Adam is making the standard promises
PEtros is a combination of the ususal promises, while endorsing an unruly mob that is no business of the speaker and his own failed project
Dan also only offers the same old same old

Not even being biased here, Nigel is the only one that is honest and doesn't just say "I'm active, I'll make sure the updates are early, I'll somehow whip the CC into shape, vote for me"

Well, question time, if elected would you have any particular choice of avatar? Would you go back to the older system of having the crowned portcullis, or would you be like the current pleb and have your speakership second to various forms of sportsball ?

    My initial thoughts.

    Hazzer:

People will attack you for your questionable English, but I think that misses the point. You offer nothing groundbreaking, but seem like you would keep things ticking over in reasonable fashion. However, 1998 was a bad year for me so it's a hard pass I'm afraid.

    Adam:

Hit the nail squarely on the head with your focus on debate. That really should be the key focus of this place. I have no concerns. The only issue is the colour of the manifesto; unattractive.

    Petros:

You are transparent, which make me question your medical status. Aside from that you claim to be "active with means", which I take to mean you have lots of money to spend on memes. I approve.

    Aph:

Sounds like you want to kill the Greens. They are my baby so I can't allow it. Sorry. Also, no Gilmore Girls quotes.

    Dan:

No idea who you are. No opinion.

    Nigel:

Don't really know much about you either. However, you seem to make reasoned, thoughtful points in debates - even if I don't agree with them. This strikes me as a good quality.

    Cbay:

I would vote for you if you had used a "Cbae" type joke. Missed opportunity there.

Right. I have 10 questions here for the candidates.

    1) Can we trust you to be partisan at all times?
    2) What are your views on dual memberships?
    3) Do you believe that any measures should be put in place to prevent ‘voting robots’ from being amongst the ranks of MPs?
    4) Would you change the content or style of party updates?
    5) What time of day would you send party updates?
    6) If an MP had a particularly low turnout, would you discuss the issue with their respective party leader?
    7) Would you prevent joke bills from going to Division?
    8) Would you release newsflashes every time a significant event in the House takes place? If so, would you do this through the Ad Hoc thread, the Twitter feed, the MHoC Wikia or in a different way?
    9) One area that I feel strongly about it is getting more TSR members involved in the MHoC. How do you think is the best way to attract people to this place and would you consider working with party leadership teams to develop strategies for recruiting new members?
    10) I strongly believe that the role of Speaker should be much more than simply carrying out the essential tasks. I personally would like to see the Speaker really push for Ad Hoc to become an integral part of the House and also introduce Leadership debates at General Elections and Member of the Month contests. Would you be prepared to go above and beyond of what is expected of you?

    And some individual questions:

hazzer1998- your manifesto formatting is a bit of a mess but that's really not a concern for me. Why in your opinion would a 2nd Deputy Speaker be necessary? Surely The Financier, as Sarjeant at Arms, would step in if either you or toronto were unavailable to carry out House business?

adam9317 - your manifesto is clearly set out which is good and I think you’d be a very level-headed and fair Speaker. However, one concern that I would have is that you’re not active enough. Do you believe you are sufficiently active enough to take on the role of Speaker?

PetrosAC - I really am impressed by your policies and your suitability in general for a Speaker and I like the simplistic design of your manifesto. I would ask you however why you would decide to potentially abandon your position as the leader of the third biggest party to become Speaker? Also, I am glad you are planning to make Ad Hoc a more integral part of the MHoC. How is the best way to do this though?

Aph - a quite plain manifesto but like for Hazzer's one, I really don't think that matters. I do find your promise to issue a 'death blow' rather frightening but hey ho. Anyway, it is well-known that in the past, you have been involved in a few controversies, one of which was when you illegally attempted to become Prime Minister. How would people trust you to be a reliable Speaker? Also, you have stood for the position of Speaker several times before now. What do you think went wrong in your previous campaigns and why do you think you would have a better chance of being successful this time round?

DanE1998 - your manifesto is, in my opinion, the best one. However, like Adam, I am a little concerned that you might not be active enough to take on such a large job as the Speaker role. How would you respond to this?

Nigel Farage MEP - I’ll try to remain open-minded but you're going to have a tough job winning me over. Recently you attempted to, in your own words, ‘destroy the Crisis Committee from the inside’. You also leaked content of a planned crisis without a single care and tried to manipulate the MHoC rules by proposing an amendment that would close down the CC without amending the Constitution. Why should people vote for someone who apparently such little respect for the rules and willing it to bend them wherever possible to get their own way?

cBay - um. Welcome back I suppose. Care to explain why your tagline is 'vote cBay for revolutions and orgies'?

All 7 candidates have a chance. I'm sure I'll be criticised for being too nice and diplomatic, but Nigel is active enough and cynical enough about most of the things we do to make huge changes to the MHoC. Whether they're the changes we need is another question entirely.

hazzer1998 How will you 'ensure that the CC produces crises' when so often previous Speakers have failed? And what's wrong with toronto353? Why do we need a second Deputy Speaker?

adam9317 Do you not feel that launching debates on 'moral issues' has the potential to run dangerously close to breaching Speakerly impartiality?

PetrosAC When you say that you'd 'continue to support' off-site activities, do you mean that you would continue tolerating them, as appears to be current policy? Or do you mean that you would take steps toward making them a more formal part of the infrastructure of the House?

Aph I'm interested by your idea of overhauling the GD and precedent. Please elaborate.

DanE1998 Are you prepared to make the large step up from your current level of activity that Speakership would require?

Nigel Farage MEP Do you have any actual proposals?

cBay I think it's fairly obvious you're a joke candidate, but kudos for that manifesto

My concern is that he is too far right and he might be biased. The best speaker are Liberals.
