But isn't that what the dedicated MHoC ST member is for? I don't think the Speaker role should be turned into a quasi-second MHoC ST, which is effectively what you’re suggesting.
It's not often I agree with you on these things, but I have to agree here. I feel it may be a little improper to use your position as an MHoC ST member in your favour whilst you are Speaker, adam9317... The roles should be completely separate, in order for the game to be fair for everyone? I don't know... just my thoughts.

It is certainly something that can be discussed and worked on; as long as the main aim of reducing scandal or crises effecting members and the reputation and functioning of this house is conducted!

Understood. Just want to have the confidence in the impartiality of the potential Speaker. Thank you for your response. :yy:

I'm afraid you'll be disappointed then. It is something nice and could become useful for newer members.

Championing MHoC interests is one thing, lobbying the CT to make the MHoC a moderation-light forum is something else. I don't want the MHoC to become another backroom. :afraid: If Adam wins and does try to make this happen, how likely is it that the CT will support it?

If there's no chance of it happening, perhaps Adam should remove that promise from his manifesto.
    I miss the backroom

My ruthlessness. I am willing to bury as many bodies as necessary to reach the top.

I've made it clear - I'm not a special candidate. I don't possess one particular quality that puts me above the rest. It's about the whole package, and I am the most stable candidate and the most likely to listen to the views of the house. I am the safe option - and I am the right option.

The MHoC is a political game, the MHoC is not a debating forum: I like to win at the game. Interpreting the rules, pushing boundaries, and politicking is how you win at the game, implement policies you like, and become successful in life.

I understand you're highly competitive and I'm not doubting your abilities at 'playing the game'. However, the Speaker should be a calm influence who should not bend the rules as much as is physically possible. I find your persistent attempts to close down the CC slightly disturbing, especially when it involved 'destroying it from the inside out' and proposing an amendment that would render it useless in a way that defied the MHoC Constitution. I would be concerned that if you were to become Speaker, you would act in a similarly rash and rebellious way.

Our house needs a speaker who is experienced in leadership, and can keep a cool calm head while doing so, I have that.
Our house needs a speaker who will be reliable and ensure this house is scandalous free, I can do that.
Our house needs a speaker who is determined to make keep this house active and great, I will ensure our house stays great!

Well, question time, if elected would you have any particular choice of avatar? Would you go back to the older system of having the crowned portcullis, or would you be like the current pleb and have your speakership second to various forms of sportsball ?
I am undecided between a red star and a hammer and sickle.

    (Original post by Quamquam123)
Right. I have 10 questions here for the candidates.

    1) Can we trust you to be partisan at all times?
    2) What are your views on dual memberships?
    3) Do you believe that any measures should be put in place to prevent ‘voting robots’ from being amongst the ranks of MPs?
    4) Would you change the content or style of party updates?
    5) What time of day would you send party updates?
    6) If an MP had a particularly low turnout, would you discuss the issue with their respective party leader?
    7) Would you prevent joke bills from going to Division?
    8) Would you release newsflashes every time a significant event in the House takes place? If so, would you do this through the Ad Hoc thread, the Twitter feed, the MHoC Wikia or in a different way?
    9) One area that I feel strongly about it is getting more TSR members involved in the MHoC. How do you think is the best way to attract people to this place and would you consider working with party leadership teams to develop strategies for recruiting new members?
    10) I strongly believe that the role of Speaker should be much more than simply carrying out the essential tasks. I personally would like to see the Speaker really push for Ad Hoc to become an integral part of the House and also introduce Leadership debates at General Elections and Member of the Month contests. Would you be prepared to go above and beyond of what is expected of you?

    And some individual questions:

cBay - um. Welcome back I suppose. Care to explain why your tagline is 'vote cBay for revolutions and orgies'?
    1) I have no intention of being non-partisan.
    2) Dual membership is not a thing in a one party state so this solves itself.
    3) As the monthly elections are done on an individual basis rather than a party basis, every member of the central committee will be there on merit, so again this solves itself.
    4) I assume you mean speaker updates but your error is very convenient because my updates will indeed become party updates if I am successful in delivering the transition. The whole process of how legislation progresses will of course change under a one party system so this will be the most noticeable difference. I am considering a policy of including one meme in every update but a final decision on that will be made only once I have consulted members of the house.
    5) I would tend to send updates around 6pm.
    6) If a member of the central committee is consistently missing votes then there will of course be a method of removing them, however the exact details of this system are yet to be finalised.
    7) I will judge each joke bill on an individual basis on whether it will bring amusement when deciding whether it should progress through the house.
    8) No, important information can be conveyed through the usual updates.
    9) My strategy for recruiting will be to regularly post socialist memes both in the Debates and Current Affairs section and further afield. People who rep me or respond positively will be contacted and told about the greatness of the Revolutionary Communist Party.
    10) I will personally take charge of improving the output of AdHoc. I want to see a new edition every month, but every other month may be more realistic. I will select an editor for each edition myself (by asking those who are interested to outline their theme and proposals for the edition). Member of the month awards are stupid and I would scrap awards entirely. There will of course be debates ahead of General Secretary elections.

    11) Revolutions and orgies are two of gods greatest gifts but there has been a clear decline in the frequency of both in recent times. I intend to fix this.

    (Original post by cranbrook_aspie)
cBay I think it's fairly obvious you're a joke candidate, but kudos for that manifesto
This seems to have been a common misunderstanding so I would just like to make it clear now that I am NOT a joke candidate. I strongly believe that the one party system that I have proposed is a much more efficient and democratic way of running a state. I will be going into more detail in the coming days of how the system will work to show you how it can be vastly superior to our current parliamentary system.

In the event that I am unsuccessful in passing the constitutional changes required to enact my vision, then I will continue to run the house in my capacity as Speaker in the way it is expected of me. In particular I intend to provide the house with rolling voting reviews, 6pm updates, and more of a personal feel to the speakership. I will also take up an active role in the Crisis Committee and AdHoc in order to improve output and quality. I also have the advantage of good spelling and grammar.

Another one for those of you who can be bothered to read the thread and not rely on tags (something you should be able to do if you want to be speaker): describe each candidate, other than yourself, with one word.
    Hazzer: Fluid
    Adam: Confused
    Petros: Filthy
    Aph: Visionary
    Dan: Reactionary
    Nigel: Lifeless

I must say, I am leaning towards Petros at the moment, based on his policies and his capability for the role of Speaker. However, I have also been very impressed by Adam and Dan. I'm going to have to make a very tough decision.

The MHoC does not need another boring, vanilla member to be the Speaker, the MHoC needs a big personality who fully embraces every aspect of the game, has a genuine interest in the game, and wants the game to continue. I can do everything else the other candidates promise so I shall save you from the cliche begging lines, however, I promise to keep debating non-legislative items, keep being involved in the banter, keep making fun of my loveless life on Skype, keep telling you all about how I meet the trophy girls, and carrying on with more of the same in a more neutral way. I am the logical choice to change the MHoC from being a boring debating club to being an active, entertaining, and memorable experience for us all; let us rebuild the memorable times of the past we learn about wishing the same could happen again today.
