Pharmacy or Psychology

ive been goin crazy about what to choose for uni. Im about to start my second year at 6th form and we need to get personal statements and applications ready as soon as we get back! And yet im not sure what i wanna do in the future. Ive narrowed my choices down to these two, pharmacy or psycholgy, yet medicine is still a possibility depending on my grades!

Im studying maths, biology, chemistry and psychology! and i wanna drop one next year because teachers say its a lot of wrk!

so wot do u think pharmacy or psychology and why?
and which would u drop?

Help and thanx in advance!

What interests you more? Chemistry or Psychology? If Chemistry, then go for Pharmacy, if Psychology, then Psychology obviously. Best of luck

Sounds like you've got a good combination for either! If you want to do pharmacy, its a good idea to get some work experience. I'd say drop whatever you least like or are doing worst in.
I'm applying for pharmacy so my views are a bit biased but you need to keep with your favourite subjects!

Well not really. To some extent in a shop yes, but in a hospital pharmacy its more varied. And also the government is going to allow pharmacists to prescribe medicines soon which will be good

Yep i'm definatley considering moving out. Currently i'm thinking about putting down KCL, London school of Pharmacy, Bath, UEA, Cardiff and Nottingham.
Theres also Brighton which isn't too far away.

Lol no need to say sorry, I'm happy to help
I'm not really sure what Trident is but I havn't done my work experinece yet but i have sent off letters to both Boots and my local hospital, and and waiting for replies. ANy high street pharmacy is fine, obviously the more and the longer the better, but anything should be fine, as long as its relevant and you learn from it. I am also applying to another chemists pharmacy, but again its yet to be arranged. Luckily pharmacys and hospitals are quite common!! It shouldn't be too hard to get a place *she says sitting and waiting for a reply* lol

Looks like I may be competing against you (for Nottingham) :frown:

I still don't have any pharmacy work experiance (and now I have 2 jobs I probably won't get any). Still pharmacy is still an option as I think other members have said that many people get on the course without work experiance.

I probably won't accept it, as i think bath and UEA would be my choices if i get offers. Where else would you apply to? Yep u can get on without work experinece but i highly reccomend it to be able to speak about in your interview! When they ask why you want to do it, it helps to mention experience!

Hi everyone,

I don't want to do pharmacy, but i worked in a superdrug pharmacy for about a year and qualified as a pharmacy assistant while i was there. I'm in London and worked at the Oxford St store, but i know they do it all over.

Why not try that?

No problem Ramaya . I actually wanted to do medicine but i've screwed up my A levels...The experience was invalueable though and most of the pharmacists i worked with qualifed at the school of pharmacy.

They sound like good choices, and for me, the less competition, the better

Unfortunately, Nottingham may be my only choice for pharmacy since I'd prefer to stay at home or not be too far away - Although I may apply at Aston. I was going to apply for Keele - but they arent running the 2005 course  .

Still, I may try and get some pharmacy work experiance - (so I can still mention it in my PS). Either way, I research medications in my free time (I have no life) so the interview (ha! If I get one...) shouldnt be too bad.

Good look on getting a placement - If you've sent of lots of letters I'm sure someone will accept you

I'm not very good competition so really theres not much to worry about!
Wow researching medications, i'm not actually sure what that involves but it sounds good! Theres only about 10 schools of pharmacy in the UK. Not a very wide range of choices but it makes choosing quite a bit easier.

I still want to do medicine, i'm hoping that the places i applied to will be lenient because i was in hospital. Even if i loose my places i'll resit my resits and work like i did last year. Possibly considering midwifery although my heart really wouldn't be in it.

Yeh i'd say take it up! Not only would you be payed but its great experience and it'd be for a long time! That shows commitment. If the area is bad, of course thats bad :frown: but i doubt you'd be coming back in the dead of night, especially if its a saturday vacancy. You are very lucky you have a vacancy near you!
