split 500m in the ratio 1:4?
split 4.8kg in the ratio 1:5
Jackie and sasha have a cherry eating contest between them they eat 162 cherries in the ratio 4:5

    Question 1
The are 5 parts in this question (1:4, 1+4=5) so you divide 500 (meters) by 5 which is 100. You then times the answer (100) by both sides of the the original ratio (1:4). So 1x100=100 and 4x100=400 so the answer would be 100:400 (meters).

    Question 2
The are 6 parts in this question (1:5, 1+5=6) so you divide 4.8 (kilograms) by 6 which is 0.8. You then times the answer (0.8) by both sides of the original ratio (1:5). So 1x0.8=0.8 and 5x0.8=4 so the answer would be 0.8:4 (kilograms).

    Question 3
The are 9 parts in this question (4:5, 4+5) so you divide 162 (cherries) by 9 which is 18. You then times the answer (18) by both sides of the original ratio (4:5). So 4x18=72 and 5x18=90 so the answer would be 72:90 cherries or Jackie ate 72 cherries and Sasha ate 90 cherries. (It is in this order since Jackie's name came before Sasha's in the question).
