Yeah, I still have an Ipod - my phone is terrible. It won't connect to the laptop via usb - keep getting a message saying it's malfunctioned and can't be recognised. I've tried in a USB-plug socket thing and nothing.

Any ideas of things I can try? is it worth getting a new ipod-usb cable? or how much it would cost to get fixed?

Connect to the computer with another USB cable and open iTunes.

Put it into DFU Mode by pressing down the home button and power button together. After 10 seconds let go of the home button and the iPod should go into recovery mode. iTunes would detect this and you should be able to restore the iPod.

    Hope it helps!!
