        If the question is "why not," you probably don't need it. The flint can be used with the knife to start a fire, assuming wood may (probably will, pretty much wherever you are) drift ashore, and can also be used for honing the knife if you're there long enough for it to become blunt.

        Water can be boiled in the metal basin :rolleyes:

          You're on a desert island, so the only water you have access to isn't going to be clean. Boiling it will kill any parasites.

          I am aware, though, that it won't remove the salt. I'm still working on that one.

          only 3 things are permitted, so choose wisely!

          :tumble::tumble:

          ps make sure you explain why you require those objects/people
          A bag of seed potatoes.
          A packet of pea seeds.
          A packet of kale seeds.

          And hope there are already lots of other edible plants on the island.

          To do that you just need one metal canister to boil it and then a way of enclosing the steam so it can condense into another canister that you are keeping cool to aid the condensation.

            I know :p: what I'm thinking about is how to do that when I don't have anything I can use as a condenser.

            I do like them but they're also the and the best veg plants to take because:

            A) easy to grow
            B) high in nutrients
            C) east to collect seed from to increase stock and grow future food
