    Hi there,

    Can anyone help a mature student struggling to find resources?

    As part of my science access course I need to undertake and indepent research project. As I'm on the science pathway I need to include an experiment.

    Im looking to something including food and nutrition but am struggling with ideas.

    Can anyone give me any advice where to look to get some inspiration??

    Thanks

    Hi,

    RESOURCES
    Go to;

    1. Go to:
    https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/

    and type your search criteria in the field near top. Try and enter specific words with the word "AND" (in upper case) (caled a boolean search) between words to get fewer more relevant results. Or enter phrases enclosed in " " (speech marks).

    2.
    Check if your uni/college subscribes to Web of Science - you can access (at least the abstracts) of 60 million+ references there.

    IDEAS

    1. Are you a guy? Look into optimal protein intake/types of amino acids e.g. branched chain amino acids for muscle growth

    2. The mechanism by which one of the B vitamins increases energy levels e g. riboflavine (Vitamin B2) provides the flavine part of FAD (Flavine Adenine Dinucleotide), which is a high energy molecule involved in the Krebs cycle of respiration. Nicotinic acid is a precursor of NAD (Nicotinamide Adenine Dinucleotide) which has a similar role to that of FAD.

    3. The specific active transport mechanisms which implement the absorption of amino acids and glucose by active transport from the villi in the ileum (last part of the small intestine, the first two being the duodenum and the jejunum), and the effect of some other foods on the efficiency of this absorption process.

    4. Experiment on some novel diet as a method of weight loss e.g. some food item that might reduce absorption of fat and/or carbohydrate in the intestine.

    Good Luck!
