Ive been kicked out of my mums house (I'm not a particularly difficult person, we just clash.. a lot). For the next few nights I'm staying on a friend's couch.
I'm going to the council after my mock exam on wednesday but I'm in full time education (im a 5th year doing my highers), I fully intend on going to uni next year or the year after if I stay and save up for a while. My only problem is that any job I get is unlikely to pay the bills while it's only part time.
If the council were to house me I could claim housing benefit and I'm already on EMA. im just wondering what exactly I can claim. I hate this, I don't want to seem like a scrounger but I can't throw a chance of me going to uni away for the sake of a year claiming what I can to get by. Please help

Hey, I'm really sorry to hear what you're going through, it sounds rough. Take no shame in claiming benefits, you're young and vulnerable and need the allowance to preserve your future prospects and you're taking it with the intention of having a better future so don't apologise for it, you're using the system for what it was made to do, open up opportunities that wouldn't exist without the financial support so never feel bad or apologise for it. You might be entitled to some sort of loan or bursary from the government/your school on top of the benefits. To get full advice and get things done i advise you go to your Citizens Advice Bureau where you can find out everything you're entitled to and how to receive it.
I hope things work out for you, best of luck in your mocks and if you just feel like talking to someone feel free to drop me a PM
