    Hi there,

I recently concluded after a lot of thinking that I would like a career as a social research officer. Social research has been the element of my university studies which I have enjoyed the most. However, I'm worried that my qualifications may not be quite right for the job.

I am currently studying for an MSc in Sustainability. It is run through the department of social science and has many social research methods involved but I don't know if its quite right. A lot of jobs ask for an MRes in Social Research Methods.

I also have a 2:1 in Human Geography where we learned a lot of social research methods. However, again I'm just not sure its quite relevant enough.

    What are others opinions?

The best way to do this is to look for examples of job adverts for the job you want, and then see what they are asking for. You'll need to look for a few, because different companies and areas will have different requirements. Once you've done that, you can start to see what is needed and then use those to make decisions on your route into the job. But if they are specifically asking for the MRes, and not specifying an equivalent, then your current MSc is unlikely to be acceptable.
