Aside from TSR Model Parliament, I cannot seem to find a dedicated debating-style thing on the site. So here's my proposition - The TSR Debating Group.

It would work roughly like this:
    • Every week/ 2 weeks/ month (depending on how active it becomes), a new debate topic is introduced by a neutral moderator. (e.g. 'Human nature and society's structure makes war inevitable' - Debate!; 'The death penalty should be brought back' - Debate!; etc.)
    • Members of the group will be randomly assigned to one of two camps - one supporting the statement/one side of the argument, and the other group the opposite. (perhaps people will get to choose, just seemed like a fun idea).
    • It is then up to the members (those who want to - not compulsory, of course), either collaboratively or individually, to argue for their side in under 1000 words (perhaps more/less).
    • Either one or many neutral moderators will then read through each side's arguments, and collectively decide which side had the most convincing, coherent and logical argument.Maybe there'd some kind of running score for each 'side', or maybe prizes(!?) - no idea at this stage.

Hopefully this will allow people to broaden their horizons on varying topics, and practising arguing on topics they do not feel confident in or disagree with. I also intend the topics to be non-specialist, meaning anyone can weigh in.

If this sounds like something that should exist, post a comment below saying you're interested(equally, post format ideas, other relevant stuff etc.)! If I get enough people, I'll make a group and invite ya'll.
