Any members of block D, which floor are you on? I'm DE/D121. Please tell me if you're gonna be my neighbour or anything

That was my floor last year! You're on the best floor of the best block (although I'm stycing B-block as so many D-blockers wanted to do it! - Any 3rd floor B blockers I'm your styc)

D block middle floor's best though (btw if your room has a 0 at the start you're ground floor, 1 = middle, 2 = top) as ground floor tends to be fairly messy and quite cold, top floor has least people and gets a bit stuffy, middle's just right. Being in D121 you got one of the bigger rooms in the bit of corridor between the stairwell and the kitchen - not entirely sure which one, it may even be the stairwell room which is huge. 3 of your stycs are my new housemates and are lovely  you're going to have such a good time, I wish I could be a fresher again :frown:

I'm in C block here, room C216 - Apparently it's a largish corner room, don't know more than that.

Joseph, nice to meet you all.

Please tell us excited derwent d block freshers more about D block cullmac! Are the rooms nice or skanky, big or small? How many to a shower? Do they overlook the lake?
Thankies  xxx

The rooms are reasonable, however i lived in A block last year and in my experience generally has the largest rooms (some in A block were 3x larger then your normal D block room). However D block has decent cooking facilities to make up for that and your attatched to your B block neighbours. Sadly no Derwent college isnt really near the lake, however the front entrance does overlook a very scenic open drainpipe.

It's not the stairwell room (unless they have changed the numbering system recently) as that is room D123 (it was my room many years ago now). But yeah, D121 will most likely be the second room in the main corridor on the left as you walk down towards the kitchen. Generally one of the larger rooms in Derwent - decent sized and if I remember correctly the room is (or was a few years ago) directly opposite a bath room with a shower room just to the left and a toilet just to the right...but then most rooms are pretty close to these things too....

But wooo! Great new people for Derwent D Block Middle Floor...it's actually amazing how many of who were on that floor have appeared up on here over the years  Best floor/corridor/house to be on in the whole uni if you ask me

Derwent does have some small rooms (I think normally the ones with an a or b after the number) as they used t be double rooms which have been split in to 2 singles.

I don't know much about A Block, but when I was there there were still some double rooms but were rented out as single rooms...so you got 2 beds, 2 wardrobes etc....maybe these are the larger rooms you mention...perhaps with some of the furiture taken out???

I guess this means I have a small room as mine has an 'a' after it, not to worry I generally got what I asked for.

no not at all, i livedin A126b... an old shared room and it was larger then most normal rooms as was my neighbours. Yes there are still some shared rooms in A block but those are very nice rooms, they have they're own lounge/kitchen as well as the bedroom and a bathroom! Two guys i know who lived in a shared room even cooked the entire floor christmas dinner with a full on turkey, veg and the works they had so much more space!

Looks like it might depend on what blcok you are in then...if it's D block, for almost certain you'll porbably have a small room....maybe C Block as well. Looks like A-Block could be anything...B block seems similar to A -Block too, but I'd guess it is actually still small rooms if there are any a and b rooms.

If you have a room over in E or F blcok, then if i remember correctly, they don't have any a or b rooms....can anyone confirm this? But then the rooms over there are all/mostly en suite (the ones I've seen are anyway) so you'd know if you were voer there...

Is E and F block the Derwith extension?

Yep.I think both Langwith and Derwetn have 2 blocks over there.

Think they are all non-shared then. They are based on James A-C and they are all single rooms (with a couple of doubles but no shared rooms).

Hi guys, I will be a Derwent member but...settle in Edens Court. I am disappointed since I spent 30 quid to send my accommodation pack to the Uni (worried about the silly first come first serve policy). Anyway, I want to congratulate anyone who have the expected place.

Further, I have some questions about the place.
What are facilities and life like in Edens? Hope that it is not an isolated court as it looks on the map:mad: .
I think that I will visit the central library and The Department of Economics very often. Is Edens far from these places? I have legs (yes!) but I can not trust the advertisement about 5 minutes walk:confused: . Can anyone tell me what "The quiet place" on the map is? Is it kind of "Garden of Ghosts" Kidding!Lastly, I hope people from college main building will welcome me when I visit them... with foods

Just out of interest why did it cost 30 quid to send your form back?!

Edens Court is about 2 minutes from the rest of Derwent down the alley along the Quiet Place. The quiet place is just a walled garden where you can go for some quiet. I would say it will be about 10 minutes to the Library and Economics as you can cut past Chemistry, maybe a bit less.

My friend lived in Edens and seemed to enjoy it there, like Fairfax house it ends up with a more family atmosphere knowing more people in your area.

Just a quick question, possibly aimed at Lucy, do you know if the D block kitchens have been split up into two, and if so, is there a door between them? I was a fresher in 2004 and in my day (!) there was just one big kitchen, but since ive heard that its been split up.

The only reason I ask is that i'm back in d block for my final year (room 109), hoping that the amazing d block atmosphere can continue (and also so i know which door to come in lol)

Mike

PS anyone that wants to ask me anything (else) about York or the uni please feel free!

@alastair: Hope to see some helpful guys like you there.

@Space hopper: 30 quid = phone bills + DHL service (mainly because of the way staffs handle my document - I live abroad)

@kaukaumooo: Got a question for ya :P Do you know anything about table tennis club in York. As regards sports in York, there are some clubs I want to join in but I know nearly nothing about them, except what on TV. Is is easy to get on and develop my skills? (any coach or helpful partner)
Reply 39
Most if not all the clubs are willing to take on fledgling members. Even if you suck they'll be willing to train you up.

Eden's Court is a very nice place, decent facilities, and you certainly won't be isolated living there. There's no disguising the fact that Economics/J Morrell is quite far away, but at least it's a pleasant walk to get there.
