I am stuck on what choices to choose for a level. I have done some research and I know that the most favoured ones are chemistry biology and maths, or chemistry biology and physics. I would prefer to do physics because I like it, although I have been told maths is better. It's not that I'm not capable for maths, I've been offered to do further but I just hate it. I also have the option of taking mandarin which I could do with chemistry and biology, but I heard fewer universities would accept you, I like the subject and I thought because not many do it, maybe It would look good but idk.

We're only allowed to take 3 a levels now due to government law, any advice? Thanks

    Hey

If you're going for something like cambridge then do three sciences. Otherwise your third subject can be anything except critical thinking, general studies ect...

Also is mandarin a language spoken in your household?

That should be fine it wont disadvantage your application.

But remember in medicine you will need maths or physics but may not need mandarin.

Do Physics instead of Maths if you're choosing between them and you prefer it, it's what I did. You don't want to be struggling with motivation trying to get those A's! If you look at the universities that you most like to apply to, see whether they're happy having a non-science subject for the third A-level. A lot of them are, so if you'd rather have Mandarin that would be a great option.

Hi, I'm currently in year 13. At my school people who applied for medicine have done either combination (some haven't even got a 3rd science/maths) and they all have had interviews, so I would say it shouldn't matter too much. I know someone who did Chemistry, Biology and History and they've had four interviews. However this doesn't mean they've got offers- but it's too early in the year for that.
