I moved city recently and Im struggling to know people outside work so I joined loads of groups. But loads of them (no I didnt join dating ones) are full of thirsty older guys and its really uncomfortable being at Meetups sometimes

Is Meetup actually good for meeting friends? Or is it just like Tinder?

Meetup is nothing like Tinder

If you find a group that interests you then you can make friends on there. Obviously a 35+ group when you're 20 won't be of much help so you need to find something of your age range really.

I went to meetup when I was around 26, I found most people going to the events significantly older than me, and many thirsty guys there attending specifically to get women.

In fact, a male friend of mine who would also sometimes go there told me once that he went to chat to another guy who he saw standing around there [just being friendly] ...and the guy turned round and told him "look, no offense.... but I am only here just to meet women" [and then the guy walked OFF]

if you want to make female friends it would suggest citysocialser/citysocialising.com and go to the meets which are female only, but then again outside of London citysocialser doesn't have much of a big member base so you may struggle to find friends there.

A lot of people try and use online sites such as meetup as places to find a partner. On citysocialiser a few years ago they implemented a feature where it shows you a picture of a person and asks you "do you want to socialize with them" or something like that. If you click yes then the next time you sign upto a meet the website sends an automated message to the person you clicked yes on and the message says something like "Hi [insert name here], I am going to xxx meet on thursday the 22nd Janruary I was just wondering if you were attending too so maybe we could meet up there"

Myself being male, I noticed that whenever I received one of these automated messages, more than 80% of the time it was from a female. It soon became obvious that the reason why I was only getting them from females is because most males on there are searching only for females so are not interested on clicking yes on me.

I know for sure the guys have ulterior motives on that site, but tbh ...I am wondering a bit about females too. I had a crap picture up and most of the girls clicking "yes" on me were around the same level of attractiveness as the photo or below ....it was super super rare to see a hot girl click yes on me. Honestly I think if I would had put up a picture of a hot guy ...then a lot of attractive girls would have clicked yes on him. Perhaps I will do an experiment one day with my alt account there.
