I have posted similar in a different section but think I'm probably better posting here.

I have been at home with my children for about 10 years. Previous to that I did a BA Business and Management (not honours, in 2003) and then worked in admin for a while before having children.

I would like to go back into admin but in the medical field. I'd ideally like to work in the NHS as a medical secretary but know I'd need to work up to this by being an admin assistant or similar in a medical environment first.

I have been looking at courses I can do from home to brush up on my skills, and learn new ones too. I think I am set on a Medical Secretary Diploma with Lewis Secretarial College, which seems to be quite a similar idea to Pitman. Pitman are everywhere, but don't offer prices readily and I found really good reviews about Lewis College.

With the Medical Secretary Diploma, I have been told that I will have the knowledge to then sit the City and Guilds/AMSPAR medical terminology level 2 exam. Id have to find and fund this myself.

I'd like to know anyone else's experience in any of these things. Do any of you work in admin in NHS Scotland? Has anyone sat the City and Guilds Exam in Scotland, preferably Edinburgh
