I have a tenancy to revert to my phone in social stations, when im walking down the road i don't go a day without pretending to use my phone to avoid awkward eye contact and, ive noticed its gotten very bad that people notice that i do it to avoid eye contact if you do this how do you avoid doing this, what do you look at, i feel like my phone in public is a coping mechanism even if im starring into a blank screen I feel safe for some reason lol sounds weird i know ... are there anythings you could do ??

Turn it off. What do you mean social situations though? Like walking down the street with a phone isn't social unless you were in a group but people do that anyway. I guess it's a bit rude when you're doing it at the dinner table though so best to turn it off and not think about it.

I can't really help because I do this! I'm terrible with it. Once, to avoid an awkward social situation, I sat on my phone for a while until the boy called me out on it and said "We're on the tube, what are you even doing on your phone without connection?"
I know some people consider it really rude but I use it as a mechanism for dealing with uncomfortable social situations too and tbh I don't really feel that bad about it but I'll find any advice interesting.
