    Hi,

So a new alternative uni loan system is being put in place to make it accessible for students who wish to avoid interest for religious reasons or their own personal reasons. This was supposed to be put into place in september 2016 but has now been pushed back to 2018 at the earliest. I was just wondering if anyone had any information or knows of any updates to the situation?

Your best bet is to lobby your MP for answers and place pressure on the government. The government have been postponing a Takaful student loan scheme since before 2012 when they were warned it would be required. It may also be worth lobbying the members of the Education Committee (the Department for Education has only very recently taken on responsibility for university education) and the Womens and Equalities committee.

Basically until people kick up a stink (and/or take the government to court for discrimination) they're not likely to get this sorted in the near future

https://www.welfare.qmul.ac.uk/money...and-sharia-law is a useful site for resources on alternative sources of income (and the specific legislation around the Takaful proposal).

    Hi sam98x

We have not had any further information on this. Once the government decides it will be updated on their website.

    Thanks
