Photo's of Colleges/Durham?

Hello everyone,

Does anyone happen to have a link to a site with photo's of the colleges in Durham? I won't be able to visit so I would like to see what they look like (especially St Mary's, Van Mildert, Grey and Hatfield och and Moatside (to see how bad it is  )?

Oh, and pictures of the rooms and rest of the interior (dining hall, bar, common room etc) would be especially great.

Thanks and good luck on your exam results,
Florence

I would doubt that the University is going to publish photos of the worse sides of its accomodation. Not a chance.

Individual colleges will have photos (of varying quality and usefullness to you) on their own sites. Also check out the sites of the JCRs. For all of these, check out this page.

Or try out Durham21's virtual tour, which lets you "walk" through the city centre by clicking on the images.

Thanks,

yeah I'd also expect the uni not to publish the "bad sides" (though I wonder when seeing Trevs MCR's home page...).

I was hoping that there might be some students there or similar who've posted pictures online. I've found some, but would like to see more as I can't come and visit.

I've visited the JCR/SCR and uni-college sites already.

Thanks Dave, those were really nice!

Durham is really beautiful, even with out the sun shining. At least it makes the choice of university pretty easy for me

Is that room (the Trev's one) sort of "normal" size or bigger? Especially, compared to perhaps Van Mildert and the "average" Mary's room.

Does anyone else have more pictures, I just can't get enough of Durham

Thanks again Dave,
Florence

The Trevs room shown is actually a double, but I was standing about halfway into it when the photo was taken. If you were to assume there was a wall right behind where the camera was, then that would be roughly the size of a standard single Trevs room.

As for compared to other colleges, they all seem to be in the same ballpark except Castle, where the single I saw was minute and the double (Hall Stairs) was massive. I've only seen a double room in Marys, it was sizable.

I've got some photos of moatside/cathedral/castle, I'll link to them once I've uploaded them to my webspace.

apologies for the frankly awful quality first few photos, I had an absolutely carp digicam until term 3.

Moatside - S block from under P block
My S block room, at it's tidiest (most likely within a day or so of me arriving)
The best moatside corridor (disputed)
Typical moatside kitchen, with patent "easy pilfer" fridge

These are shots with my newer cam:
Cracker of the castle from atop the cathedral
Cathedral and castle from some bridge I forget the name of
S block taken from S block (S block is U shaped)

Fantastic. (not moatside perhaps). The pictures over the Castle were really beautiful (very clear too). Thanks for posting!

aye, a pc60 it is (the weird black bit at the top of the front is a dead giveaway, isn't it!)...wish I'd got the black one now, but nevermind, it's still a joy to work with, and *still* the lightest computer I've lifted, which is fab for moving it about at the end/beginning of term.

You guys running on self-builds yourself, I'm guessing (fairly rare for full systems to be sold in lian-lis ) ? also (bit of a thread hijack, sorry, it's the inner geek struggling to get out) what specs are you running?

They are nice cases. I have a very decent machine in mine, but Doom 3 says it will send fiery skulls after me unless I upgrade to an A64 and an X800 .

Yes the lightness is suprising, considering it is larger than most other cases these days.

Of course I self build, any right minded geek would .

So, the breakdown.

Athlon 2500XP @2.4Ghz (3400 equivalent)
1 Gig of PC3200
128Mb Radeon 9800Pro also overclocked @400/380 with a VGA Silencer
2 160Gb SATA Drives
1 120Gb IDE Drive
DVD Writer
DVD Drive
Wireless network adapter
17" LCD monitor NEC 1760NX

That just about covers it .

Mine is even more geeky!

Dual Athlon 2200+ MP's (running at 2Ghz each)
1024mb RAM
128Mb Radeon 9700Pro
Creative SB Audigy 2 Platinum
4 x 80Gb westen digital 8mb cache hard drives
Promise Raid 5 card with 256mb cache
Lacie 40Gb USB2 portable hdd.
52x24x52 CDRW Drive
DVD Drive
19" CRT Flatscreen

And the lian-li cases are nice!

well, I've been outgeeked by the pair of you, I'm running a comparatively meagre:

athlon xp 2400 @ 2.13Ghz (it's an old t-bred and refuses to go any further :-()
512 of pc2700
9800 Pro - got a vga silencer but it blocks my firewire headers :-(
2x80gb Seagates (p-ata)
Nec 2510A 8x DVDwriter
Some lite-on DVD-ROM drive
Gainward cheapaschips 7.1 soundcard (bloody soundstorm surround output on my mobo is broken)
Leadtek TV card
Lg1710B 17" TFT (as pictured :P)
+logitech mouse/keyboard/5.1 setup (for the blackness!)

You got your stuff plugged into an nf7-s by any chance, antimagicman?

I dont actually understand anything about computers... anyone got any suggestion as to what laptop I should get for uni, and please put it in lay mans terms, I only did ICT for 3 years and my 3rd year my teacher took a disliking to me and I spent the majority of my lessons outside the class. Are there any pink ones?
