    so lets say you had dodecane.
    on the 4th carbon you replaced an H with a methyl group BUT on that methyl group you put in a hydroxy- group. How would you name that?
    It would begin with 4-????-dodecane but what would you name the branch as it's a hybrid between methyl and hydroxy

    In this case, the OH group is more important than the propyl group.
