Applying to a course with and without a year abroad

I applied to two courses at UCL. It is the same course, but one is with a year abroad and the other one is without.
Should I have applied just for the one with a year abroad and the University would automatically consider me for the one without? Was it a waste of a choice?
As I read, I can still make changes up to 2 weeks after I applied, so I would appreciate any advice.

Perhaps to clarify, do people get considered for a course without a year abroad if they had applied only for the one with a year abroad?

Yes you can usually swap between the "courses" when you are at university. Best not to use up two slots.
