What kind of job and what degree?

A first is not a great deal different to a 2:1 anyway for a graduate job and there's other things to factor such as experience too.

A lot of grad jobs are 2:1 minimum. That Desmond could be from Oxbridge on a gold leaf diamond encrusted certificate but it ain't getting you in the front door.

London Met. If you don't meet the 2.1 requirement (I'm assuming this is required), you'll be filtered out in the first stage.

Are you guys being serious? Oxford is so highly regarded even with a 2:2 they would overlook the grade. Forgot all this filtering out. The person who went Oxford will be more likely to get a job and better paid. Some schemes require 2:1 but still he could apply for 2:2 jobs and be highly likely to be accepted.

It's an autofilter that a lot of firms use for online applications. If it requires a 2:1 there's no discretion involved, the application would be automatically rejected by the system irrespective of where the degree is from. So yes, we are being serious.

As you say they could obviously apply for 2:2 grad jobs as they meet the requirements.

Depends on whether they can do the job right.
I wouldn't just take someone on because they went to Oxford.

From the point of view of getting a good job on the whole I think most employers would be more impressed by a 1st from London Met. However I'd be tempted to still take the Oxford Desmond purely because it would be a more enriching three years for other reasons, and the contacts you'd make would probably be more useful than a foot in the door in a random graduate job.

oxford 2:2. Anyone who says Lon Met 1st is incredibly ignorant or short-sighted.
