A friend and I both attend sixth form in a secondary school and would like to book a holiday for a week as soon as we have finished our mock exams, the Friday of the week we plan to miss is sports day so in theory it is only 4 days of work missed but still 5 school days, however could we face a fine? Would it be best to tell our head of sixth form now or just go?

Why must you go during Term Time? All it will do is cause trouble, and more for your parents than for you. It would be much better to wait until you've finished.

You're a few months away from a massive summer holiday. Is it really so important that you can't wait until then?

You have no right to a holiday in term time; it is at the school's discretion to give you permission. Most schools will say no to all holidays these days.

Wait until your A level exams are over; it'll be cheap then as well.

Keep in mind that the worst thing that could happen if you take an unapproved absence is that they tell you not come back in September. I am not saying they will, but they could.
