    Hi,
    I am struggling to rearrange the FOC to get the y shown, can anyone help me out with steps?

    A bit of a mess, so I don't want to latex it, but follow these steps and it should come out:

    (i) Notice that one of the terms has a negative sign in front of it, so you've got the form A - B = 0. Take one term over to the other side so you have A = B.

    (ii) Square both sides of the equation

    (iii) You've now got terms raised to the power (-1) on both sides, so multiply these out.

    (iv) You should end up with an equation of the form y = something not involving y + something times y. Collect terms in y and divide through and re-arrange.
