Freshers HQ will be open from 12am-5pm of every day of Freshers week, in the Alcuin JCR. HQ will be staffed all week by Second and Third Year Contacts (Stycs) who will be on hand to help you with any queries you might have. You will also be able to buy tickets for events, purchase our bespoke college merchandise and sign up for sports teams. On top of all this, we’ll have free munchies, a playstation and some movies if you want to come over and chill out

Alcuin College’s legendary movie evenings return to kick off our chilled events. We’ll have a selection of movies to watch on our projector with full cinema surround sound plus a load of free takeaway to eat. The evening promises to be both relaxed and indulgent and will be a good way to meet new faces, so come on down! Monday, 8pm in the Alcuin JCR.

Pub lunches
On Wednesday and Thursday, there’s the opportunity to head into town for a slap up pub lunch at a knock down price. The Lowther, one of the most student friendly pubs in town, has created a special Alcuin Freshers menu, with all dishes (including vegetarian options), priced at only £5. Anybody from blocks E, F1, F2, H, G, J1 and J2 who wants to come along should meet us at the Alcuin porters lodge at 1.30pm on Wednesday, while those in blocks K, M, N, P and Q should do the same on Thursday.
Music night
If you’re interested in meeting other Alcuinites that play musical instruments, come down for a jam on Friday night. Bring along any instruments, or just come along to listen. No body has to perform, we’re just looking to share ideas and have some fun. We’ll provide a drum kit, soft drinks, wine and nibbles. Friday evening, 7pm in the Alcuin JCR
Movie Night If you’ve had a hectic week and are looking to chill out on Saturday evening, we’re hosting another movie night in the JCR at 8pm. Once again there will be a choice of films and free takeaway.
LOUD Events Week Zero Saturday (7.00pm til 11.00pm) and Sunday (7.00pm til 10.30pm)
Having spent the day watching your parents struggle with suitcases and pleading with your mum to stop making the bed and just leave, it’s time to stroll on down to B. Henry’s - the Cocktail Bar, where, like Cheers, everyone knows your name – or soon will. Have a drink, listen to some tunes and meet your fellow Alcuin freshers as well as loads of other people who have been through the torment (only joking) of the first year at the wonderful University of York before.
Week One Monday
Evening: Join the hoards of other new (and probably some older) University of York students at the beautiful racecourse for the Freshers’ Ball. Your chance to meet as many people as you can shake an overly-large stick at, with a variety of music and decorations providing an incredible backdrop to the entire evening. Keep checking the YUSU website for more details and the chance to by tickets.
Tuesday
Evening: Time to hit the town and with a different bar or pub for every day of the year, it shouldn’t be hard to find one that suits you. Tonight is the night that you get to see the best York has to offer and paint the town red (and black) on our ‘Alcuin Colours’ Town Bar Crawl before ending up, as you will inevitably do on numerous other occasions in the future, in Toffs – ‘Night Club of the Gods™’. After the legendary Tony Ward’s provost talk, head straight for B. Henry’s where queue-jumpers should still be available if you haven’t yet picked one up, and you can smear yourself in face-paint and then descend upon fair York declaring your devotion to the greatest college in the University.
Wednesday
Evening: Whether you’re the sporting type or not, come along to B. Henry’s – the Cocktail Bar from 7.30pm for a night of fun and frolics at the Alcuin Bar Olympics. A variety of games and challenges will put your (drinking) skills to the test, with prizes available for the best ‘competitors’. Also, there will be the opportunity for anyone interested to sign up to college sport or simply meet those already involved. Let the battle commence!
Thursday
Evening: The first late licence event of the year and it promises to be a ‘devilishly’ good night as Alcuin presents Angels and Demons. Whether you’re a saint or a sinner fear not for all are welcome to come and party in the bar and the marquee, with special cocktails on offer and prizes for the best dressed. Tickets will be available on the door, in advance or as part of the Alcuin Week ticket available online.
Friday
Evening: Alcuin’s bar offers you the chance to savour its extensive cocktail list in a more relaxed atmosphere and maybe play a little roulette as we present 007 Night. Black tie is optional but all cocktails will definitely be shaken not stirred. Bond girls and villains more than welcome.
Saturday
Evening: With funky beats in the bar and dance/trance in the marquee, Alcuin’s B. Henry’s – the Cocktail Bar will provide one of the venues for the annual Freshers’ Week institution, Access All Areas. With 6 events on one ticket, the evening acts as an intro to where each college (and its bar) can be found all with a tasty blend of music to boogie down to. Tickets are available on YUSU website and in YOUR

HOP.
Sunday
Evening: Presenting the World Famous AL-Quiz, a college tradition involving pizza, pitchers and cash, not to mention some other special prizes to kick start the new year in the best possible way. Events kick off at 7.30pm with entry £1 per person and with the celebrated ‘booby prize,’ even if you lose, you win! (well kinda…

. What’s more, Freshers’ Week Awards will be handed out by your STYCs for those who have already made a name (or a disgrace) of themselves in the first week!
