Technically you're not allowed. Realistically nobody cares.

I'm mostly sad about the other way around
as in my friend was planning on goin to Kings which would havebeen useful for moi if i wanted to go to london
but she didn't get in :O(
now visiting London's gonna be a bigger effort/cost

You are not meant to, but people have been disciplined for it.

I had my girl stay over throughout my year in halls, and it's fine. Founders is the trouble child, since it has security at the entrance. Keep your heads down (wink) and no one cares.

Cheers guys, its not gonna be too often as I'll prob be popping into London to see her but i just wanted to check there weren't any warders or anythin checking to often.

What about Penrose? Is it guarded or something?

And if you are "caught", what may happen to you?

Reply 6

well theres not much they can do if they've alreadt travelled down is there? speically as I didn't pick Founders
I'm sure it'll be fine

Reply 7

IF they did catch you sneeking people if, it would be your problem, not their's, even if the person had travelled. For Founders you'd just have to make sure to get in before 11pm (after this time you have to be let in), or walk in with a group of people.

Penrose would be easy to get people in, nobody watches. Founders is the only tricky one.

Good to know. I just hope that in case you are cought you are not expelled from hall permanently.

Thank you!

Nah. The only people I know of who got excluded from halls were two who beat someone up in Kingswood when I was there.

yes obviously it would be my problem but then, if so many people go into every other hall they must know that, and I didn't pick Founders so all I'm saying is
a) I doubt they wouldn't let them in on account of them having no-where else to stay and I thought they were meant to be enforcing our saftey and that, so leaving our friend outside at night is not safe, I'm sure it won't be a problem, otherwise its pretty unfair that some halls are tighter on security because a lot of ppl didn't ask to be in Founders
hopefully it'll be cool in Founder also

There are 'spare' rooms on campus which guests are supposed to stay in. I don't know anyone who has (there's a couple over by the Hub which look like the G and W rooms) but they're about £30 a night, I think.

If you were caught, you could very well find your mate is chucked into one of those and made to pay.

really? but how could they be found? surely they can't reocgnise every student? how would they tell? i mean they could say they left their card somewhere or something, and they can't room raid can they?

Like Ben said - realistically, no-one really cares. As long as you're sensible and not causing problems in your corridor (so someone reports you for having a guest), I don't really see how you'd be caught...certainly, I know plenty of people who've stayed over in rooms and not been found/had any issues.

But the official line from the uni is that if you want someone on campus, you should book a guest room - so I'm guessing that, if for some reason you were found with a guest, they could be turfed into there.

Like I say though, I've never met anyone who's had trouble with guests being in their rooms.

okay cool, i reckoned it'd be be like that anyways.

Once we had a fire alarm and there was a woman outside my room with a clipboard seeing how many people came out of the rooms. Was quite weird.

Reply 16

odd
edit: I guess its to make sure nobody is left inside or something O___O
i dunno, thoguht they'd do a name check outside for that

How are Gowar and Wedderburn for guests? I think it's a pretty stupid policy that you can't even have someone to kip the night on your floor. It would be better for everyone if there was some proper procedure.

I'm a bit concerned how it'll be if you're living in one of the "flat-style" accommodations such as the aforementioned ones.

Reply 18

It's easy in Gowar and Wedderburn to have guests stay, as there's no reception. There are also double beds there to make it more comfy.

The flat style accommodations are actually really good. You generally only hang out with your corridor in halls, or you can simply go to other people's corridors, not too much of a big deal in my experience, you're not limited to just your flat. You'd need to be let in to other people's flats, but again it's no biggy. You do at least get to know people in your flat well, as you get to share a great kitchen and dining area with them. The halls I am in right now in Munich has no such thing, we have our own 'kitchen' which is crap because it makes it a lot harder to get to know people. At RHUL it's a lot more social.

Reply 19

Thank-you for your reply bengreen. At risk of diverting the subject of the thread. What are the kitchens/pantry like in the newer halls such as Gowar and Wedderburn? I am interested in how people manage the food that they buy, is there plenty of space to cook and store food? Is there a kitchen per corridor? Thanks very much.
