    Hi folks,

Myself and a colleague are trying to sort our 2 weeks of our elective in Peru for July 2017.

Does anyone have any good recommendations of where to go or contacts in any of the hospitals? We're having difficulty getting email addresses for staff in the hospitals.

    Thanks

I used Mundo Verde, which provided a full package of hospital placements (one in Cusco [mountains] and another in Puerto Maldonado [rainforest]), accommodation, 1:1 intensive Spanish lessons, excursions (including Macchu Picchu), airport transfers, and support "on the ground". Profits are reinvested in the organisation's original mission, which is rainforest conservation. The owner (Pablo Miranda) is based in Cusco, speaks excellent English, and is an anglophile who takes a personal interest in the students there on elective.

It was cheaper when I went in 2009 but still, I think, would be very good value. They have clearly expanded since I used them but I would presume the same personal service exists for those visiting Peru.

    How much did it cost?

It was in the region of £1,200 per person in 2009 but that included 8/52 accommodation in a large apartment, 30 hours of 1:1 Spanish lessons, 2x clinical placements, salsa lessons (!), transfers, and quite a few excursions (including the 4/7 Salkantay trail to Macchu Picchu). To be honest, the prices in $USD now only come to £2,000 and that's despite the rubbish exchange rate. It obviously would depend on individual circumstances but I could envisage this still being cheaper than trying to arrange the same things separately.
