Hi. Im currently studying Philosophy and Politics at Cardiff Uni. I'm in first year. Since week one I've not enjoyed it here at all. Everyone is super nice however I feel too far away from home. Having tried over my first term to throw myself into things- joining societies etc. I spoke to someone from the uni who recommended I should look into transferring as they could see that I was truly trying and truly unhappy ..... I started the UCAS process to transfer to Liverpool Uni on the SAME course but to Year 2 (not starting this all over again!) The 'entry requirements for Liverpool = ABB My alevel grades are BBC. I've written the best personal statement I could possibly write and I've spent tons of time on it. Including all personal reasons for needing to transfer as well as why I chose Liverpool. I'm worried I won't get in and I will wind up staying here for 3 years which I really don't want to do but of course will if I have to (uni is what you make it I know) My question is What are the chances of me being accepted by Liverpool with these grades ? Has anyone on here done a transfer before? How did it go? Did it fail? What sorts of things do the uni consider?

Without speaking to the university no one can give you an exact answer, but if you intend to finish first year it's mostly likely that will make an offer conditionally on your grade in that year.

What claire said. Finishing the year with really good grades is key. You are trying to make up a two grade difference so your uni scores should reflect you are coping easily.

No idea but consistent 2:1s imo. They can give you a much better idea. id probably go to one of the open days and meet some of the lecturers so they cna remember who you are.

    Applying for transfers atm too.

They'll take into account your recent performance on coursework/exams as well as the grades you previously achieved on top of your PS and Reference. Don't think anyone can predict the future for you however.

Thanks for help! Yeah I know it's so impossible to say. Was hoping for someone who's done a transfer successfully and had some knowledge of how strict the whole thing is really. Think it boils down to places available on that course as they only have certain number.

    How's your transfer process going?

Oh they got back to you earlier than the deadline? That's good at least you know.
    Best of luck

Did you apply through UCAS before the 15th January deadline as a normal student or are you contacting these universities? I would like to know more about how you're doing it as i am considering transferring too however i'm not sure what university yet.

Made contact (email/phone) in ~September before starting at uni with a copy of my grades and current syllabus.

Disregarded the ones that didn't at least acknowledge my transferring chances and then picked out my list from the rest.

Afterwards, I applied via ucas before the deadline (although it doesn't actually matter as much if you're transferring) with first semester module coursework/test averages + prior grades + reference from my old school (because my course is like 280 people so don't really get to know uni staff). some of the unis have now contacted me for a predicted grade, syllabus and an unofficial transcript of grades achieved so far

Ah I see, it's a very good job that you have done this so early. As for me I haven't been able to as I was looking to transfer last year but was unable to due to **** A levels. I have been spending my time working and thinking of what A levels to redo. I ended up with a BBC by the the way. Is it too late to do the UCAS side of things because I'd like a few choices of unis that would accept me before I make a final decision? Just want a rough idea of what unis will accept me and I can't do that if I'm not able to do it over UCAS and to have some time to think about it? Make sense

Email universities with your grades, current uni grades and syllabus asking about how possible it would be.

Yeh, exams didn't go great for me either

Having gone through this process last year, I would say Southampton were the most lenient in terms of giving out offers to transfers.

Bristol is the hardest one as they require legitimate reasons as to why you want to move i.e moving closer to home etc.

    Anyways good luck

Yeah that's what I've found, Southampton have been very receptive to emails!

Hopefully Exeter say something as well, they would be the ideal option considering how close they are to Swansea to keep up with my friends.

Bristol is probably going to outright reject.

I do agree with Southampton. However, their offer is based on achieving 70% overall in first year.

I did get rejected by Exeter but that again was for a different course to what you are doing.
    Have/did you look at KCL?

    You never know bro
