I'm just drafting up a ps for a summer school (UNIQ)

I have an example of my perseverance and competitiveness linking to a hobby(badminton).
The basis of the example involves me competing regularly with a friend in badminton who was better than me however I practised and persevered and now we are on an equal level.

    Is this appropriate or not!?

Is the specific course you're applying for asking for examples of competitiveness and perseverance? If not I can't imagine why you'd want to include this.

Read and re read the guidance from UNIQ on what your PS should cover http://www.uniq.ox.ac.uk/statement

Mention that you have a hobby but I personally wouldn't talk about that in too much detail unless you can relate it to the course you want to apply to
