It is widely assumed that the person who is broken up with feels the most pain after a break up. However, I think both sides can feel it equally.

I chose to break up with my boyfriend even though he meant a lot to me. Our lives were moving in different directions and our futures incompatible. Even though we were very close I knew it wasn't going to work in the long run.

It's proving very difficult to get used to. I feel heartbreak even though I initiated the split. Somebody who I could talk to about anything, who loved and supported me, is suddenly uncontactable. I can't hear how he's doing. I'm worried about how he is feeling. I feel distraught and lonely, even though I made it this way.

How can I cope with this? Has anybody been in the same situation before?

How long have you been together and how long have you been broken up for?
