Would doing only 3 AS Levels affect my chances of getting into a Russell Group University?

if you plan on carrying them onto A2 then absolutely not. All universities entry requirements consist of 3 A Levels (some may list 4 but they always list 3) A2 is more important than AS

Not if you intend on taking all three to A2/ the full 2-year A-level course.

Many people drop their extra 4th AS anyway - so while there are some UCAS points attributed to that dropped AS, if someone gets a U and drops that particular subject, they would have no points for it anyway. Also, from what I've seen, Unis don't include AS results in their final offer - AS grades are simply used now to predict your final A2 grade, given by your teachers. The Unis see this predicted grade as well as your AS grades (but hopefully put emphasis on the predictions).

So yeah. Don't just listen to me though - seek advice from your head of Sixth Form/ College
