R u joking? every1 nos leicester is a million times better than DMU- no disrespect to DMU(but it jus is)

leicester is like 18th best uni in the Uk so probs in the top 15 in england.

Where as DMu is like 100th or in the high nineties.

As long as you get the grades required the competition isn't any more fierce, with the exception of Medicine and to a degree Law.

Leicester are certainly more selective than De Montfort, though selectivity of undergraduate students is not really a great way to judge 'betterness' of university.

hold on a min, u get exactly the same degree from all universities. and by the sounds of it the social life is a thousand times better at DMU. anyway does it really matter. ?!?!?!?!?!

more accademically based universities like leics are likely to attract students that are more work focused. and people who go to uni's like DMU are more likely to go raving all the time.

im not too happy actually i chose demontfort because it had lower grade boundaries and a good social life but i ended up with 340 ucas points haha so i could have gne anywhere really.

Fair enough, I guess it depends on your definition of a 'good social life', I don't really enjoy 'raving' haha. But no, clearly you never experienced a St Albans Road party last year, carnage :p:

I think there's more to a good social life then 'raving' imo. What course are you studying at De Montfort?

Well its a university, surely everyone should be work focused?
It doesnt matter if its number 1 on the league tables or number 101, work at uni should be everyones priority and if its not then they shouldnt be there.
You make it sound like wanting to focus on your work is a bad thing :s-smilie:

Ultimatly the 2 unis are in the same city so the social scene will be virtually the same- and if the social side is supposidly any better at DMU it will only be because there are more people there willing to compromise their studies for a night on the lash, which is hardly a selling point

Of course it does, imagine you went into a job interview in 10 years time.

Person A: Got a first from Oxford
Person B: Got a first from DMU

Who do you think the employer is going to perfer?

Emznotts, please, your embarssing yourself. You can't make a comparison between DMU and Leicester university.

People i know (i come from Leicester) have to into DMU with EEE (literally). My best mate got into a law degree with two and a half A levels (BEc).

Basically, you've made a very bad desicion in going DMU with 340 UCAS points.

ohhhhhhhhhh hellllllllllllllllll no listen 2 me sugar.
just because you've got brains and clearly think very highly of yourself doesn't mean everyone else does.
i didnt think i'd get 340 points or i wouldnt have gone there would i infact i might of done because, im not so stuck up to think i'm better than certain univerisities.
uni is uni regardless to where u go. i got kicked out of school at 15 and ive had to work my ass off as colllege to achieve my gcse's and A levels which im very proud of because most people in my position had babies and claim job seekers allowance. so before u start being rude i suggest u get over yourself hunni!
I dont think it was meant to taken like that emznotts. I think the fact that you have been able to turn everything around is amazing and that you should be really proud of yourself. the fact is dmu is good for ceratin things as every uni is, they just tend to be the more vocational based universitites. i think the point that was trying to be made was that with 340 ucas points it iss strange you ar egoing to dmu, but i have to say that i dont think it is alwayd about the unis rep but what you get out of it, so well done on getting to where you have!

The point is you're selling yourself short. You are too good for DMU. A better uni means better future prospects. Take a gap year or go through clearing for a better uni if that's still possible.

I don't think people are trying to upset you, or get at you emznotts.

Having a first in a degree should mean the same no matter which university you go too. However the sad fact is, it doesn't. People judge you on what university you went to. It's what people do.. you can't change that.

I once read an article in the Guardian or Independant (I can't remember which now). However, it said that some employers nowadays would rather have someone from Oxford with a 2:2 than someone from an old Poly with a 1:1 in the same degree!!

It's extremely pooey, but it's the truth. The university of Leicester is i'm afraid seen as one of the 'better' universities.
