I'm seeking some advice after finding out I've failed an essay worth 80% of my module.

I wrote a 3000 word essay for my module. In marking, feedback states that it is well written and shows good understanding of key concepts. The feedback is overall positive, except the marker failed it based on it not referencing any of the essential readings of the module.

One of two 'Essay Guidance' documents mentions the need to reference essential readings, however the other doesn't. My essay also quoted on of the major seminar readings, which was literally essential to the course and seminar.

Does anyone have any advice on how to proceed? Would it be worth appealing the mark? Would I have a case?

As long as you have answer and addressed all the points on the brief or the question set, I dont see the problem on what sources that you use as long as they are referenced correctly. As long as you backing your arguments with academic theories/literature I dont see a problem. I would maybe speak to the module leader and see why this has happened!
