Whats the ideal amount for rent these days (in large cities)? I had accommodation at Sheffield uni back in 2012, and I paid £112 per week with a friend for a two-bedroom apartment, and the accommodation could easily be considered luxurious. It had a balcony, two bed rooms, two bathrooms, a laundry room, a kitchen, a living room, and main utilities paid. But now I see en-suite rooms for £150 per week and Studios for £200+ per week. Have prices for (decent/nice) accommodation really skyrocketed this high? Or did I just manage to find a bargain at Sheff?

This is a near impossible question to answer. I'll be looking at paying around £200-250 a week for rent in London (zone 2/3)... My friend in Liverpool lives in a gorgeous flat, it's really big and spacious and she pays £100 a week (Excluding bills). My sister lives in bath and her and her boyfriend pay £150 each a week.

It literally depends on which city you're in. If you were in student accommodation then it is likely cheaper (People may argue that it isn't but the majority of student accommodation includes bills, internet, council tax, ect )

From what I see on TSR, rents seem to have gone up hugely - they seem entirely unaffordable for students these days, even for a fleapit.

So you guys were paying £225/week (>900pcm) for a 2 bed place? In Sheffield? In 2012?

Lol at you thinking that is a bargain. There are plenty of 3 bed houses to rent in Sheffield for less than 500pcm, and student places for <£50 per person per week...
