    2 S2 O3 2- + 3I2 -> 6I- + S4 O6 2-

    1 mol of IO3- produces 3 mol of I2

    3 mol of I2 reacts with 2 mol of S2 o3 2-

    So 1 mol of IO3- is equivalent to S2 O3 2-


    HOW DOES THAT MAKE SENSE?

    Your logic is not impeccable.

    1 iodate = 3 iodine

    and

    3 iodine = 2 thiosulfate

    Hence

    1 iodate = 2 thiosulfate
