I have had a HSBC account for many years and when I last visited the bank twice they told me to open a savings account and put money in there.

The thing is, I am currently working and well I am making £££ now. I want to protect the £££ and really want to keep it with a good bank - one that is very secure. I have heard people say that their bank call them to authorize direct debits and offer good security apps and online banking.

I want like an instant account where I can withdraw and deposit money any time and to be fair - money and banks as a whole are clearly not my forte.

    Any advice?

heard terrible things about Santander on the Moneybox programme... a business woman was scammed out of £180 000 and their fraud system did not pick up the fact that 20 unusual transactions were made in 24 hours.

I currently have accounts with HSBC, Barclays and RBS. Out of all of them I'd say that Barclays have offered me the best service, with RBS being a little hit and miss (but still easily liveable).

But you can't really go wrong. You'll hear horror stories about pretty much every major bank out there, but they're all competent for the most part.
