Im female and always been seen as a bit odd/quirky as a few people have said. ive always been very quiet and still find it hard to make friends. People say im nice and 'funny' but dont seem to take me seriously. In serious conversation people will want to make eye contact and talk to others in the group rather than me for example. Like when i do speak/try to make a joke some girls/women look at me funny then when i notice them they smile a bit and look away. Its as though they look down on me but im not sure. I find that guys and men dont do this many will blank me but they wont seem to look at me as though they are judging me the way that some women do.

Just wanted advice, why does this happen and should i just carry on asmyself or try to change?

Don't change. It's what makes you, you. If you were to do anything, get involved in the conversation, even when people in a group aren't directly talking to you - butt in, make your opinion heard. It's possible this way they will see you can talk about serious issues and maybe you can crack a joke at the "serious issues" to lighten the mood and build trust.

don't change for other people, they all just sound shallow and ignorant people.
