It seems like the only alternatives to university are work, apprenticeships, or gap years. I desperately want to study, and getting a degree isn't my main priority because it's what I enjoy doing most in life. I can't find any option that is academic where I can learn the same level of content as I would in a university, without going to uni.

I did apply to university, but only three universities offer the course I want to do, and I was rejected by all of them. I will obviously be going through clearing, but I there is always the chance (quite a big chance, to be honest) that they will still reject me. Studying abroad isn't an option for me, simply because I wouldn't be able to afford airfare.

college may not be appealing to you if you are aiming for university but college allows specialist courses and you can complete the to a high level such as level 3 or 4. alternatly you can take evening classes with a specialist you can take this to degree level. i know your not keen on an apprentiship but if you choose the right area they can be very useful.
