this is an utterly stupid idea. Whether you like Trump or have been brainwashed by the corporate lying propaganda of the media It is just a bad move.

Right you call people who don't like Trump brainwashed... It is called having an opinion.

And no, this petition will change nothing.

Does nobody remember what happened when the policy was announced on the campaign trail?

Like it or not Trump is the democratically elected president of the United states currently the Largest Economy in the world. The UK is leaving the EU and has a potential for a bright future if they can negotiate trade deals with foreign nations outside of the EU. Considering that Trump is very eager to do this I can't see how it could possibly be in our interest to be cut out of trade deals with the largest economy in the world simply because some brainwashed numbskulls wanted to express their uninformed hatred of the US president. This petition is utterly retarded.
    Electoral college is not democratic.

    Is this a joke?
Well, he apparently knows how to play golf; he may humiliate British officials playing against him.

And has now been implemented with a completely overblown reaction, according to the FCO clarification

Maybe you should ask the queen if it will embarrass her rather than projecting your opinions onto the head of state. Like it or not, so is Trump, and if HMG feel it is appropriate to have him over on a state visit then so be it. He is, after all, a democratically elected president instead of a dictator, even if he is acting like one. We are a tiny and insignificant island that always wants to punch above its weight, so we need friends, however odious they are. We are also leaving Europe so we might end up needing a free trade arrangement. Given that he is petulant maybe we should play nicely.

Pray tell how you reconcile "great power" status (pretty much universally accepted) and insignificance?

Things didn't go according to their plan when a previous incumbent laughed at a significant part of the electorate.
