I was just wondering if I would get a higher student loan as I am currently living with a friend and their parents as my home life is...let's say less than tolerable (I don't really want to relive everything on here, I hope you understand)

I start uni in September (I'm currently doing A-Level) and I'm worried if my student loan will still be based off of MY parents income, because while they are high earning, they are also terrible people, and there is no way they would pay a penny towards my university. Or would my student loan be based off of my friends parent's income, as I am living with them? How long would I have to have been living here to have this identified as my permenant residence?

    - thankyou

    Hi

Have a read through http://standalone.org.uk/guides/student-guide/ - it's a very good and clear guide to the process and the sort of evidence you'll need to be assessed as "independent".

It's a chunky amount. So you have to prove a lot of ****, mostly that you've not been speaking to them for at least a year, and are under 25, and it helps your case if you've been homeless, then it depends which uni you go, what you study, your situation but you'd get around £3k in instalments the first year. If you're part time it's not even 1k but it's still money. I got part time bursary but pls don't ask for me to go into detail.

You have to get a couple of people of good standing in the community, who have known you for a few years, to sign to say that you have been estranged for them (no contact in the past or for the foreseeable future) for a minimum of 12 months to be exempt from basing your student finance on their income.
