    When it wasn't just Google.
    The broken image in my earlier post was Yahoo's original home page when it was a directory (like DMOZ) not a search engine - somewhat ironic considering they are pretty much defunct now too.

    AJ was fun.

    Also of the era: Lycos, Altavista.

    This is one of the first web sites my company worked on:
    https://web.archive.org/web/19961104...agency.gov.uk/

    We had to also provide a text-only version because dial-up was so slow.

    That environment agency webpage looks much less dated than it should, given it's over twenty years old. I think it's the green 'buttons' down the RHS which are doing it. It'd be an interesting exercise to view it on a 'monitor' with the correct aspect ratio and resolution to see what it really looked like again.

    Thanks! We were rather pleased with it too.
