How much do you have to earn for three years to be considered an independent student?

I have been earning for three years, 2 part time and 1 full time. I am under 25. I have been living away from my paternal home for a year.

IIRR it's around £7k pa in 3 of the last 5 years (proves with P60s ideally) to prove independence.

    HI

We will require 3 years (36 months) worth of evidence, however it does not have to be consecutive years.

Acceptable evidence can include P60's, month 12 or week 52 payslips, benefit receipt letters, HMRC Statement of Earnings, Employers letters, Tax returns, accounts documents.

    Thanks

Thank you for this. Further to your reply, I am wondering what the policy would be if the 3 year mark were to be met this November, after the SFE application process?

    Thanks

    Hi

The 3 years would need to have passed before the start of your course. The three years can include periods when you were:
    • In paid full-time employment
    • In receipt of Income Support, JSA or other state benefits paid to a person who is registered as unemployed
    • In receipt of incapacity benefits, invalidity pension or maternity allowance
    • Receiving training under any scheme for the unemployed or other funding by any state authority or agency

    Thanks
