Now we're asking the real questions :curious:

Can't remember, but I think it was explained somehow - how do the carnivorous predators (e.g. Mayor Lion) sustain themselves?

Well the play the children put on at the beginning doesn't tell the full history. The reason the animals stopped eating each other and began to cooperate was because of the risk from a common enemy- humans. The animals banded together and defeated the humans and their close relatives the apes and monkeys who despite having suffered at the hands of humans themselves were considered too great a risk to allow to exist (hence why you see none in the film). Humans still exist but are kept contained and bred to be used as meat and dairy for the carnivorous and omnivorous animals.

Better point to be made is how they all had opposable thumbs.
