    I grew up with the Gene Wilder version, I used to watch it all the time at my grandparent's and it does have a lot of nostalgic value to me - I much prefer the way the children interact with eachother in the Gene Wilder version, but I much much prefer the story/songs/Willy Wonka in the newer version. I think that Depp actually portrays Willy Wonka more closely to the book (he's supposed to be wacky and childish)
