Well at least they're in the top when it comes to rankings, ours are far from that.

Those Transylvanian Saxons sure knew how to build - a shame you expelled them all after the war But yes, much of central and western Romania is very pretty. Romania has sent some absolute gems to Eurovision though.

Yes, Transylvania is a treasure and Prince Charles is a big fan and has been a regular visitor, he has helped conserve rural villages in the area.

And Paula Seling has an amazing voice and she is such a great performer. Too bad our entry in the Eurovision Contest became ineligible because the national broadcaster didn't pay debts.

And it's actually a tragic moment for the whole country, Romanians are currently protesting and asking for a referendum.

    1. They must get lots of film crews if those sites are commonplace.
    2. Romanians do have a bad rep over here particularly for organised (gangs) petty crime and fraud. Not a hate thing i'm just saying thats the reputation thats been earned. The Poles dont have that rep.
    3. There seem to be some serious anti corruption protests going on at the moment. is this going to be a big thing?

    3. The government adopted an emergency law to decriminalize the abuse of power crimes and corruption offences so they can actually do whatever they want with only small, insignificant consequences. The sentence for these crimes (2 to 7 years) has been changed to 3 months to 3 years or only an amend.

The measure includes pardons for convicts sentenced to less than five years and reduced sentences for prisoners over 60.

Those who are facing legal proceedings, the majority of the politicians from the leftist government, have the advantage to get away with their offences, as well as 2,500 convicts being released from prison.

President Klaus Iohannis is a strong critic of the ruling party's ordinance. He called this adoption of the law "a day of mourning for the rule of law ... which has received a grave blow from the enemies of justice."

It has been possibly the largest protest since 1989.

Read the article. It isnt all on point though. Even if they are Roma then the organised pickpockets have garnered a lot of bad press. It doesnt mean we think that of all Romanians just the waves that have hot the headlines iver here. The rest is really about Romania in the EU. I think you are bound to have a different view if you have just joined and they give you free money. 5 billion Euro in 2015. I think the article shows a lack of understanding on what the average UK citizen feels about it hence we have Brexit.

Yes I was reading about it and was just wondering how big a story this was and how angry people were. Could they be overthrown? One of the most memorable news clips is the one of Nicolae Ceaușescu stood on the balcony and it dawning on him the crowds werent cheering. He was given a state visit to the UK.

ps DW im not prejudiced against Romanians. i take as i find people.
