Hmm well its not recommended to use normal hair dyes after using henna so I guess it would be the same for highlighting as well... just nip into a hairdressers and ask, Im sure they'd be able to tell you

Thanks for your reply. I appreciate it, and I will do so .

I think I should also mention that the henna was put on about a month ago.
Oh, well I know with normal hair dye your not really supposed to do anything to it for about 3 months or so after you last dyed it.. so my hair dresser told me anyway!
du u know henna i think arabs only know that

Yeah, thing is I never thought it would be an issue. I was told that you can get really horrible side effects, like severe breaking of the strands, and drying. I dont know really. I just heard it from girls.

I'm arab .

Although its not true that only arabs know about it. It has become a very common and safe way of coloring hair all over the world.

I just used it once though because of the great things I heard it does to your hair. However, now I want to get highlights, and I'm a bit worried about it.
I think its actually something to do with the chemicals/metal in henna dyes which normal dye's react to... Am sure Ive heard something about you just need some sort of treatment on it to reverse this, but I could be remembering something completely different so dont quote me on it! Lol.. could try googling it as well!

Yeah ive been googling all over the place, but haven't really found what I was looking for. That is kind of why I came on here and asked. I'm still looking though .

Thanks though for taking the time to reply .

Anyway back to the main topic ......
ok i understand
I have experience of this, except it was the other way round. I had my hair dyed darker at the hairdressers then, about a month later, I put red henna all over it.

At first it looked shiny and nice but then it went dry and was very hard to manage. So then I wanted to get it redyed at the hairdressers again (not realising that henna and chemical dyes aren't supposed to mix).

The hairdresser knew I'd used henna and said she better do a test first. So she took a bit of my hair and put it in a bowl of peroxide. A minute later and the bowl was really warm 'cos of the chemical reaction. And that's what it'll be like on your scalp should you decide to get higlights. So...don't do it! It can literally melt your hair. :s-smilie:
