    Hi,

I'm 19 and will be applying for student finance when the application opens and i was wondering if someone could help me with the household income part.
My parents are separated and i haven't had any contact with one of them for 2 years.

I currently live on my own and have been since September 2015, i'm renting a room and i have no help with money from my family. For my household income do i just put what i'm earning or do i need to add my parents as well?

Also i'm currently in a full time job but will be leaving in July due to uni will i need to put my income down considering i wont have an income come September

    Thanks

    Hi there,

Because you're under 25, you have two paths here: 1) We can assess you based on the parental income, or 2) declare you independent.

If, as you said, you're estranged from your parents, you can indicate this on the application. We'll then contact you to request evidence of this. So long as you provide this, we can accept you as independent; and so entitled to full funding.

    Thanks!

    Hi,

Thank you for your response as i have been living on my own for less than 3 years can i be declared as independent?, I have no contact at all with my mum but i have minimal contact with my dad. I have self funded myself with my full time job which can be given in evidence and i have benefit letter for when i claimed in my first year of living on my own?

    Hi brandon10105

You can't apply as independent based on supporting yourself but if you are classed as estranged and can send evidence of this we can look at assessing you this way. If you still have contact with your dad, we would ask him to supply income details to support your application.

Please also see this website: http://bit.ly/2jF61Vo which has a lot of information about applying and evidence that may be required if you are looking to be assessed as independent.

    Thanks
