So I am a student who is looking to go to University of Surrey and I have been looking at the prices for accommodation and it turns out that the loan money I am estimated in getting is not going to be quite enough but I realise that universities that are located in London get a bit more. So I was wondering if University of Surrey counts as "in London" when applying for loan.

    Hi there,

I'm afraid students attending Surrey don't receive the London weighting on their student loans. You can find more information about fees and funding at Surrey here: http://www.surrey.ac.uk/discover/fees-funding

    Hope this helps!

    As Ashley said, nope ^

Although I would reassure you that the 'budget' accommodation (Band A and B) is more than acceptable ! :excited: haha.
Plus, there are lots of places to work in Guildford if you want to earn a lil extra cash On campus too!

    All the best

Guildford is not in London, but Surrey is quite expensive as a county. Unsure if this would affect accomdation. Definitely cheaper than London!!

I'd reccomend it, Guildford is nice

Does anyone have any experience of living in London but studying in Surrey? The travel time from where I live in SW15 is quicker to Surrey than to all (but one) of the London Unis, but no one can tell me if the maintenance loan is calculated on where you are living, or where you are studying. £3000 difference is a huge deal when I consider my mortgage payments for the year, and it's bonkers to think that the direction I commute affects my cost of living.

    Hey Weavermech,

As grandeur10 said, the amount of maintenance loan you receive depends on the uni you're studying at. Surrey doesn't fall under the London weighting I'm afraid!!

    All the best,
    Ashley
